Frequently Asked Questions

What if life gets in the way and I can't make a lesson?

For lessons booked on a one-by-one basis, which need to paid for in-advance, then I am happy to fully refund or re-schedule provided you give me 24hrs notice. For lessons booked in a block of 4, then again, if you give me 24hrs notice I can defer one or more lessons due to holiday/illness/ or just one of those things, as long as you give me 24hrs notice - But, if "something happens" - just call me and explain. Life can throw-up unexpected things, and I do not want to be an additional problem in those circumstances.

What are you doing to keep your knowledge and skills current?

I have studied and played alongside UK Jazz Legends like Tony Kofi, and with International academics Mike Tracy (Professor of Jazz at the University of Louisville, Kentucky) and was a regular attendee at the week-long workshops with Jamey Aebersold while he brought them to the UK.  My "Mentor" for the past 8 years is Bob Reynolds, who is a Grammy Award Winning Saxophonist from L.A. California - He regularly tours with Snarky Puppy, with his own band, and has several notable Album Releases with both.

What if a student has no interest in practicing?

Here is Bob Reynolds catching-up with me after his Oct 12th 2022 Gig at Ronnie Scott's

I will do my utmost to find ways to get students motivated to practice, but if this is in-effective, I will communicate this via my monthly feedback.

What if the student has no intention of pursuing a career in music?

It is well proven that the discipline of learning a musical instrument has a very positive effect on students studying for GCSEs , A-Levels, or Degrees. Not only because of the relaxation aspects afforded as a result of allowing your brain to work on something completely different, but also the regime and discipline required to progress through the grades, is invaluable when students get into a University environment and beyond.
For me, after 50 yrs of playing, picking-up the saxophone is like bumping into that life-long friend for a catch-up. It's a "safe-space" where I unwind for sure, then have fun.

Can you help me to buy a saxophone?

I can provide neutral advice for the purchase of your first, improvers or pro Saxophone as I have owned and played most brands over the years.
